WHAT NEEDS

This Holiday time causes families to think of what they can get for each other. Perhaps somebody says, “What do you need?” and the common answer is, “I don't need anything.” When a family member says that to me I say, “Good, I won’t get you anything.” The truth is, most everyone could use something. I want us to think about some real needs. What are some things that everybody needs?

SAVIOR

Everybody needs to be saved and you can be. Listen. If it had not been for Jesus then there would not be a Holiday time as we know it. Without question the greatest need and gift from Heaven was the gift of the Lord Jesus Christ. In order to be saved all need Him and two Scriptures should remind us of this great truth. The two Scriptures are John 3:16 and 2 Corinthians 9:15.

CHURCH

Another great need is a good church. I know of a man who was offered a new job but he would not accept the work until he checked out the church. Why? Because he wanted his wife and children in a good church. Among other things a good church is where everybody is somebody and Christ is Lord. A church the Lord blesses is the kind of church that is made up of members who really want to be like Christ and follow Him every day all the way. The church is to express the attitude and belief as set forth in John 3:17 where Jesus said, “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

OURSELVES & OTHERS

Another major need at this time of the year or any time is to be concerned about ourselves and others. Since the word of the Lord tells us to examine ourselves then we must do it. Try to see self as God and others see you. Consider strong points and weak points. Always aim to be a better person. Also we need to be concerned about others. First, there are individuals who need to commit their life to the Lord in Belief and Baptism. Do what you can to get people saved before it is forever too late. Second, there are dear members who need to be restored. The Bible specifically tells us to do what we can in helping and restoring some of our brothers and sisters in Christ (Gal. 6:1-2). Third, there are people in the church-family who get weak and discouraged in the faith and need special encouragement (Rom. 15:1).

ANOTHER NEED

If the Lord doesn't come this week then we have one more Sunday in 2009. Think about it. Only fifty-two Sundays in the year. The Lord is here every First Day of the Week. Are you? I am sure the lady must have been telling the truth when she said, “The most exciting thing for me during the week is to come to the worship assembly.” The author (perhaps David) of Psalm 122:1 stated, “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.” All who can need to be in the assembly of worship every Lord’s Day. Come with a Bible in your hand and a spring in your step and a smile on your face. I’ll look for you in your place.
