QUESTIONS

Some questions for every member of Central Church:

What do you need to do in order to be spiritually strong? What do you need to do in order to help make the church stronger? Have you ever taught a Bible class? Do you pray for the sick? Do you visit people in the hospital and at home? Do you talk-up the church to people during the week? Do you keep a positive attitude about life? Do you faithfully attend the Sunday assembly? Do you put forth an effort to be in Bible class? Do you read and study your Bible during the week? Is there someone that you are praying for and encouraging to be a Christian? Have you thought much about your leaving this world in death? By faith, do you know you are ready?

THREE

I can’t mention everything we as Christians should do, but let me call attention to three major things. One, live a good Christian life during the week. You have influence. Somebody may follow in your footsteps. People have been led to the Lord by the good lives of others. Two, be in the worship assembly every Sunday. Somebody may say, “Preacher, why do you often mention this?” Because I know how hard the Enemy (Devil) works to keep good people from being in church services. The bottom line is that you need to be here to get spiritual food and fellowship as you worship and praise the Lord. Three, find something you can do “at church.” You can paint a classroom. You can change light bulbs. You can do some outside painting. You can help teach. You can help fix food when needed. You can write a note to a sick person. You can pray for the preacher and tell him, “I’m praying for you.” Pray for the elders and tell them. Commend a Bible teacher by a card of appreciation or by a phone call. Welcome visitors at church. Be friendly to all. See Shirley Casey and get a form of things you are willing to do or see Curtis Cozort about “jobs” that need to be done around the building.

WORSHIP

Sometimes people say, “I didn’t get much out of worship.” When I hear such I want to say, “Did you put much into it?” I believe the following six things will help improve worship.

  • Make Sunday a priority. It is an important commitment. In a sense it is a meeting with God.
  • Don’t bring God leftovers. Get plenty of rest on Saturday night. Remember Matthew 6:33.
  • Prepare your mind. Be spiritually minded. The prophet Amos said, “Prepare to meet God.”
  • Be on time and be sure to bring your own Bible. As he gets up to preach, one preacher says, “Let me see your sword.”
  • Be joyful and sing. One thing I like about a good VBS is the way children joyfully sing.
  • Before and after services, make sure you are friendly and especially give attention to all visitors. It may be true that friendly churches are growing churches.

Be in your place every Sunday. Come with a Bible in your hand, a smile on your face and joy in your step. I’ll look for you.
